Little eye opener

I have spoken with some parents about school choice . Pioneer   who has run without a contract with Vernon  now wants one. Here's the problem Vernon will not do a contract for school choice  or tuition and that's from a very reliable source. I also know that only one child applied this year going in 7th grade from Vernon and that's still up in the air. If forced Vernon will stop school choice/tuition  and no grandfather clause will be issued . If act 46 passes no grandfather clause will be issued .

VT Background information: Currently under the Act 46 merger process you cannot have a school and school choice. Legislators were ASSURED that school choice would not be threatened by mergers, so they approved the legislation. The school choice political "hot potato" was passed around until the State Board of Education decided Act 46 did not allow choice and schools to co-exist.

This is up for a vote  in 2017. So I would suggest  PVRS districts tighten the pocket strings.

I have also heard that Winchester NH is still undecided and leaning towards other options , like Hinsdale or working out the problem with Keene.

So watch the budget PVRS.

  1. Our family chose BAMS ( BUHS). I did not like what I heard was happening here to risk it .

  2. Vernon does not use "SCHOOL CHOICE" to send their students to PVRS. They "TUITON" their students to PVRS.

  3. Do the math when the loss of students for choice adds up to twice the super cost there will be a change made.
Thats when they will need to beg for money to use as a budget or cut staff. I would suggest a administrative cut to top the list of ways to cut a budget no longer in line with whats needed. If every school choice parent wrote a letter to the school committee and a copy to each member of it. They would know about the support of the recall if it were done.
If enough students from Vernon were to stop i would think that may open a eye or two?
How many go to Pioneer from Vernon.
Did the SC release the budget info and or the contract for the super?

  4. The biggest class from Vernon will be seniors this year. The majority of parents are choosing Brattleboro and I am willing to bet the ones who can at PVRS will head to tech. Haven't seen either budget or contract . It should be public how ever the timeline on the web site hasn't been update since April.
