To the teachers
I want to talk to you all concerning why you remain ...silent... Its baffling as hell knowing you are keeping silent when its you who are being abused and its running off to the kids. You chose teaching because of kids. Well, those kids need you to speak up. They care about you and love you and this hurts them too ... Silence....When a child in 7th grade walks into PVRS they are walking into there future . From day one, you taught them Diversity, Pride, Community spirit ,Sportsmanship, to believe in themselves that nothing was impossible if you tried and that bullying was not something that was acceptable . These kids believed you and trusted you to hold strong to what you taught . They saw this in you as well which made it stronger for them. You made them the best of the best and you even won awards doing it . Now these kids are seeing things differently . The bond that many had with you seem strained and they feel the tension and fear . Kids are funny like that, they feel before they see. I have talked with so many of these kids and they no longer feel safe or comfortable in there own school. I know many of you have also heard this , yet you remain ....silent.......
You are seeing past school committee members, teachers, principals and parents come forward on your behalf to help and still you remain ...... silent....
One child said "This fall it feels like we are walking into the unknown" How does this make you feel knowing kids are feeling this way and not wanting to go back make you feel? ..Silent?..
The SC who should be watching over these kids do nothing except turn there backs . Its up to all of you to decide what is more important, taking a stand for them and showing them what you teach you believe in or ....silence...
You have the voice to tell what is going on. The mistreatment, verbal abuse, non stop harassment on the phone and in the halls. Forcing you to go against your own principals and self respect. Bullying is against our school policy and to have a Superintendent abuse her authority is just not acceptable . Again, you are here to protect these kids so why are you remaining ...silent..?
Yes, money and jobs are important in today's world but so is self respect and teaching right from wrong . These kids are already headed into a world much different than we have ever known and the trust starts here and so does taking a stand for whats right . How can they trust you and your word when you don't in return live by it and take a stand against what is wrong ?
In the end PVRS will be like the past schools having to hire past employees to heal the schools, teachers, students and budgets . Is this what you want for PVRS? Only you can stop the silence and take a stand... Just know Your not alone.
There are a few things to think about here:
ReplyDelete1. It is hard to take all of this seriously when there are ubiquitous spelling errors. While a lot of your points are excellent and well thought out, the execution here is poor. Taking the extra few minutes to reread each post will really help strengthen your position and perhaps inspire more voices in your fight.
2. Teachers, particularly the young staff at Pioneer, simply cannot speak out. Speaking out is the easiest way to lose your job as an educator. If the situation is as dire as what you are describing, the Union is most likely writing a position in the background and perhaps even organizing to have a vote of no confidence.
3. Grass roots campaigns, like this, count on strengthening bonds. This entire article alienates some people who might have sympathized with your position. Build relationships, don't destroy them.
Its a blog nobody cares about the spelling get over yourself.

I don't think it much matters as long as the word gets out .
Alrighty, suit yourself.
ReplyDeleteAs a former Pioneer Educator, It's really disappointing to see a write-off of a few suggestions that could have strengthened your argument. I guess it's more about causing a ruckus than promoting actual change.
This was sort of a test to see whether this group was receptive towards "outside" suggestion. I had a few tidbits of where you could start, but it involves looking the professional part. Let me know if you reconsider.
I am all for it. That's what this was created for to get people involved . Please feel free to say what you wish its welcome here.
ReplyDeleteAs a former Pioneer Educator, It's really disappointing to see a former be an Anonymous poster.
ReplyDeleteWhy are you afraid to not be anonymous.
How can a anonymous comment be taken seriously.
1 Do you even care about the place that pays for your retirement?
2 A spelling problem for a former pvrs educator could spell a problem with the system they represent.
3 Are our schools as a whole failing?
4 We spend more per student and have much less to show for it after.
5 Is it about the pay and the retirement after or the kids?
6 Start to teach the kids to not be afraid and use a name of your own to be serious.
7 Don't knock the people who do care about the kids and are not afraid to speak out.
8 If ruthless was after your pension you would look for the support you need from the people you judge here.
Good job phatarchives!
"Keep it up"
Thanks Dave your support has been amazing and very welcomed here .
ReplyDeletePeople speak of bullying by Ms. Miller. What about the bullying that occurred over the last 8 years, causing many highly qualified, and loved staff to seek alternative employment and/ or retire "early." There are 2 sides to every story. Unfortunately, your blinders are on. Some of us FINALLY have a voice in our school, FINALLY there's a level playing field, and some of us don't fear coming to work any longer.
ReplyDeleteREALLY??? I don't remember EVER 4 highly qualified people leaving back to back. Stop your lies . its unbecoming . You state you don't fear coming to work anymore ? A time will come when you will be in fear of a job to come to, tell us than how you will feel. Your loyalty is misplaced .
DeleteFrom what I understand she was on speaker phone during a few of her not so lady like conversations. She was heard loud and clear by many . LOL
