I found this article on the opinion page of the reformer . No words could have spoken this better except I cannot agree about the SC..If you go over the past pages of this blog you will see a pattern here. Millers ability to lead in a positive manner falls short in every position we found her in .She is
aggressive in a non positive way and a known
"bully" and will be quick to throw anyone under the bus to excuse her poor leadership. .After spending the last eleven years at PVRS its hard to see what has become of our school. The last two years have been an experience that many will never forget . It also saddens many of us that it took this SC so long to see the light and the lengths that parents, students and teachers had to go to get them to listen. I do not see a good ending for PVRS.For many who made this school strong and supportive have been dismissed. From Dayle Dorion, Sharon Jones, Mr .Wherli , Mike Duprey and now Cathy HH , and so many more .. and this SC is the reason for this demise. They pushed out Dayle Dorion and the rest is history. I would like to agree with the integrity and intelligence of the School Committee
members but they have shown lack in leadership as well, by not listening to Teachers and Administration officials who came to them with concerns of Miller and were dismissed and left due to the lack of support they were given by the SC. Many changes need to be addressed and contracts bought out and begging to get our school officials back and in charge of fixing this damage if its at all possible. Miller , Bacon and the Vice Principal Jenn all must be removed . The negative impact they have had on this school is showing and school choice is now at zero and thats a big loss to PVRS as well as parents looking elsewhere to educate their children. If this SC wants to be back in good standing its time they take a stand and show the leadership they were chosen by the people to do. At this point they receive an F - .
Also why is the new
Superintendent Evaluation not listed on site yet?
As a former Pioneer Valley Regional School teacher for 32 years, I am
saddened to see the negative changes in the culture of the school due
to the decisions and actions of the present administration. I find
Superintendent Ruth Miller’s comments regarding her evaluation to be an
insult to the integrity and intelligence of the School Committee
members.
It’s interesting that last year when she received a
“proficient” rating, she had no concerns about the evaluation tool nor
the School Committee’s understanding of how to use it. Now that she
received a “needs improvement” rating, she questions the process. Her
comments directly relate to concerns expressed by committee members who
stated that she “redirects the issues.” To suggest that the committee
members are not using evidence is an unprofessional assumption on her
part.
Merely reading the articles in the Recorder for the past two
years has provided an abundance of public evidence of administrators’
weaknesses including the reporting of the results of a recent teacher
survey, the teachers union filing of an unfair labor practice charge,
and the multiple comments and concerns expressed by students, faculty,
parents and community members at the monthly school committee meetings.
Going
forward, I trust that the school committee will make decisions that
have a positive impact on the students, faculty and public perception of
PVRS.

Great letter. Well written and well thought out.
ReplyDeleteI’VE ONLY RECENTLY COME ACROSS THIS BLOG. WHILE I AGREE THAT THERE IS MUCH TO BE FIXED IN THE PVRS DISTRICT I FIND IT HARD TO AGREE WITH MOST OF THIS BLOG. WANTING TO IMPACT CHANGE WHILE NAME CALLING, THREATENING AND CONDONING THE BULLYING OF A CHILD, CONDONING OR EXCUSING VANDALISM SEEMS AN INEFFECTIVE WAY TO GET THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO COME TO PASS.
ReplyDeleteNOTICING HOW YOU SEEM TO ATTACK ANYONE WHO HAS A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION, I’VE COMPILED SOME QUOTES FROM THIS BLOG. I’M EXTREMELY SADDENED AT HOW A COMMENTER RESPONDED TO A PARENT WHO HAS A CHILD HAD BEEN BULLIED, AND BECAUSE THIS BLOG DOESN’T LIKE THE PRINCIPAL AND VP THIS BLOG CHOOSES TO SAY THAT THE CHILD WASN’T BULLIED. HOW CAN YOU BE SO AGAINST THE BULLYING YOU SAY IS HAPPENING BY THE SC AND ADMINISTRATION BUT YOU CAN BE OKAY WITH CHILDREN BEING THE VICTIM?
IS THERE A MORE EFFECTIVE WAY TO GET THE CHANGES THAT ARE SO DESPERATELY NEEDED?
“Its come to this .
In all the years I have had kids in PVRS I do not remember this kind of destruction of property happening . Kid's are frustrated and they are angry at what this Administration is doing to there school and let me make it clear I do not condone this , but they are clearly making a statement as to who is the target of there frustrations.
Bacon nor Miller have done a thing to improve PVRS but they sure have made it a miserable place to be. But hey, in the last year the School Committee has done nothing but close its ears to teachers and students and this is now where we are it . Suggestion SC if you want this school to get better I would start by removing your Superintendent and PVRS Principal Bacon and bring back Duprey , while you still have a school to be a SC for .”
WITH THE “BUT” IN THIS QUOTE YOU DO CONDONE IT, BY EXCUSING IT. YES THERE ARE MANY FRUSTRATIONS, TEACHING CHILDREN THAT IT’S OKAY TO VANDALIZE BY SAYING “THEY ARE CLEARLY MAKING A STATEMENT” IS CONDONING.
“Let me see his name appear for any PVRS schools and I promise you I will tell everyone your story.
Your destruction is right on schedule and follows you wherever you go, but this school is different and will fight, and trust me this one has just begun. I don't like a bully and you are a bully and it ends now. You want a fight ? Its on .This panther is pissed off!
You have a nice day now.”
THREATS? THAT’S WHAT IS GOING TO GET THE POINT ACROSS? BECAUSE, HISTORICALLY, THAT ALWAYS WORKS (SARCASM)
“You took away a man who not only was the HEART of PVRS but supported the teachers and students, You refused to believe what he told you about verbal abuse and unreasonable demands and we lost alot. Now, Cathy Hawkins-Harrison , what the hell is wrong with you!”
YET PEOPLE ON THIS BLOG REFUSE TO BELIEVE A CHILD WAS BULLIED AND RESORT TO ACCUSING A CONCERNED PARENT OF “BEING ONE OF THEM” AND STATING THAT IT IS “BS” REFERRING TO THE BULLYING OF THAT CHILD.
Please leave your not well. I have not seen or read anything that says anyone has condoned the bullying of a child or vandalism. You on the other hand are doing what you are accusing others of. Please leave. Many support this blog. I am sorry if your child was bullied but no one here condones that.
DeletePlease see the response to "Phatarcives" where I apologize for speaking harshly and admit I could have responded more appropriately.
DeleteIt EXTREMELY inappropriate for you to accuse me of being "unwell".
By asking me to leave and then calling me a name you have basically proven my point. People with differences of opinion are not welcome here. which is unfortunate, attitudes like that scare off people who may have a great idea for a solution that could be built upon by others in the blog. Those people may be afraid to respond because what they see, historically on this blog, is people being called liars, being called "unwell", told they should be ashamed of themselves.
the attitude does not promote an open dialog.
I agree with you concerning the "not well" was inappropriate. However, I do not approve of bullying on any level nor vandalism and I will go over this again and look at your statements.Everyone is welcome here even with a difference of opinion. If you go back and look this has happened. I want you to understand however, that people are angry and feel the only way they are being heard is here. The SC has dismissed the parents, teachers and students concerns and wishes and now the state of the school is in a dire mess.Let us all look on both sides.
DeleteI do understand the anger. I am also angry at what is happening. As I said in my other response to you I most definitely could have responded more appropriately.
DeleteI also understand the feeling of not being heard, honestly, I'm feeling a bit of it now. Wishing I could more accurately articulate what I'm trying to get across.
My fear is this.... There does seem to be a pattern within this blog that any difference of opinion or different ideas is attacked. (Not with you Phatarchives, I take you at your word that you encourage differences)
Please understand what I am hoping for is the opportunity for open dialog. As I said in a previous response there are some great points in this blog and I'm sure some great minds. I think we need to work together (even if opinion differ slightly) to come up with a solution for the children in this district. (As I've also stated I do NOT agree with what the admin or SC is doing.)
What if the parent who was called a liar and their child's suffering dismissed (see the recent "to little to late post" written on 6/15/17) had a great idea that the other minds in this blog could have built on to come up with a great idea that could have been taken to the SC? I'm guessing that parent is long gone now, after being treated that way.
Yes let us all look on both sides. It is after all about our children.

This is the most disrespectful and uninformed blog I have ever read. Every post and comment is based on bias opinions and rumors that have circulated in the community. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. I hope you’re teaching your children (that you claim to be so concerned about) how to actually behave as an adult and treat people with respect which I have seen none of in this blog. How can anyone take this seriously when you are calling people names? How is that mature? I guarantee that your kids are coming home stressed because their parents keep talking to them about issues that shouldn’t be their concern. You are the reason they are stressed, leave your kids out of the conversation. Bullying starts from home, and right now you are responsible for your actions and words. Be a good example for your children and act like adults. “Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.”
AnonymousMay 26, 2017 at 10:36 PM
Are you serious? For starters we are aware that you are part of PVRS (and from your writings and rants above, you are in the administration)Nobody with half a brain would say what you have unless you yourself have a reason to try and protect your own asses.
Bias and rumors? 98 % of the information is found in newspapers and information sent from Templeton and PVRS web-page and elsewhere.(Check your facts first it's all in black and white)The writer actually tells you where its from.
If anyone should be ashamed it should be you! How dare you defend bullying by a Superintendent and Principal! This is NOT acceptable PERIOD!
These kids come home to their parents stressed and concern that they are losing yet more teachers they depend on, and wondering if their friends will even be back next year. They see their teachers stressed!
Miller, Bacon, and VP Jenn are all bad for PVRS and they have destroyed the spirit not only of the school but the faculty and students as well.
Change is good, progress is good but not with this Administration.
So get off your high horse we are well aware of what is happening and you writing this ridiculous post shows how outta touch you actually are or like I said trying to protect your ass. “
SO ANYONE THAT HAS A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW YOU ATTACK. “How dare you defend bullying by a Superintendent and Principal! This is NOT acceptable PERIOD!” YET YOU DEFENDED AND EXCUSED THE BULLYING OF CHILD.
RIGHT HERE IS WHERE YOU DEFEND BULLYING…“AnonymousJune 17, 2017 at 7:41 AM
You want Pioneer to be a "stable and high spirited" school, teach the kids not to be bullies. That is what Pioneer is known for outside the community (and inside of it), snooty and full of bullies.
Judging from this year...we can't disagree. It's been miserable and you know who tried to help, the principal and VP, you know, the ones you despise. They're the ones that helped our kid.

Listen I hate to be the downer here but your full of crap. How can a Principal who is a bully and a VP who can't be bothered or lies to get out of situations help anyone?I am betting your one of them cause you won't find a handful to agree with you.

YOU ACCUSE A PARENT OF BEING “ONE OF THEM” SO YOU CAN FEEL BETTER ABOUT IMPLYING IT’S OKAY FOR A CHILD TO HAVE SUFFERED AT THE HANDS OF BULLIES. ARE YOU PERPETUATING A BULLYING ATMOSPHERE AND THAT IS WHY YOU FEEL THE NEED TO DISMISS THE SUFFERING OF A CHILD?

ReplyDelete“Violation of school handbook? I think the kids have learned a valuable lesson here. I think suspension is a bit steep and instead should be banned from school dances, which would be a harsher punishment,or in school suspension.
While were also at it , bullying is also in the student handbook and is not tolerated so, why do we have a Principal and Superintendent that gets away with it? You might wanna question that one as well. “
YET ANOTHER QUOTE, WHERE YOU ARE SO AGAINST BULLYING BUT YOU THINK ITS OKAY FOR A CHILD TO BE BULLIED
“Her ability to lead is disgraceful at best , and bullying is not considered high standards at any level.”
AND ANOTHER
“Let me make it clear,NONE OF YOU WILL EVER BE ACCEPTED OR BE WORTHY .” BECAUSE EXCLUSION AND LACK OF ACCEPTANCE ARE SUCH A GOOD IDEA.
“There better be a microphone!!!!!” SOUNDS LIKE A PETULANT TODDLER
“For starters Miller you are a lying bitch. Look over the past blogs from the beginning .” NAME CALLING? WHAT WOULD YOU SAY IF YOU SAW/HEARD AN ADMINISTRATOR RESORTING TO NAME CALLING?
“For the love of GOD , YOU ,MILLER have destroyed our school , we were stable and high spirited! NO, you need to leave now not a year from now because I promise you every move you make, we will be watching you . As long as you are here this blog remains. It will take a miracle and years to undo the damage you have done. SC buy out this contract while we have a school left.”
AGAIN WITH THE THREATS. INAPPROPRIATE

I agree Tuthless is a lying b****! She is probably the worst b**** I have ever met too. This article is filled with lies from ruthless and much bs from the school committee! Now, I believe it is our job as parents, teachers, taxpayers and students to attend the school committee meeting on the 22nd and stand up and not sit down till
She is thrown out then and there and yes ruthless we will help you back. Then we can all rejoice ding dong the witch is dead! “
POSSIBLY NOT THE AUTHOR OF THE BLOG, BUT AGAIN IT SOUNDS LIKE A PETULANT TODDLER AND VAGUELY THREATENING

DID THIS COMMENTER HAVE A DIFFERENT OPINION TAHN THE AUTHOR?
I removed that statement due to vulgar language.Your abusive attitude is unacceptable as well. I am sorry your child was bullied and its unacceptable in and out of school and I am happy you were able to get the help to resolve your situation. However I will not tolerate you bulling others because they disagree with you. You have said your peace and I respect that. I want to have difference of opinions but your walking the line yourself with some of your comments and FYI their are 8 people who run this blog.
DeleteNope it wasn't my child.
DeleteI'm sorry I responded in a way that seemed harsh. My concerns are valid but I most definitely could have responded more appropriately.
The original comment pointed out at least two instances of someone having a difference of opinion and they were told 1) to be ashamed and to get off their high horse and 2) that it was bs that a child was bullied and they were probably one of them.
That kind of expression seems to be the prevailing attitude in this blog and that is what concerns me. I was just accused of being 'mentally ill' in a response, not yours. A parent who tried to point out something good about the principal and vp was called a 'liar'.
I think there are very good points and information in this blog and that kind of response greatly defeats any good. People with great ideas, you never know it could be the one we are looking for, are going to be scared off. They're not going to want to be called names and told that their opinion is worthless. Or that they are liars.
We have received many good ideas here and I am sure we will not have a problem finding someone new to replace Superintendent Miller or the others. S.Miller was given an opportunity when she first arrived to embrace and learn about PVRS, and instead she openly misinformed the newspapers concerning money and the Administration, and totally disrespected Dayle Dorion on a number of occasions. This, to many was totally unacceptable as was the false information being fed to the media.(The Principal and VP were also given the same opportunity and we had hopes that they would take the time and learn about our school and as you are aware they did not) S Miller drove out our Principal due to lack of understanding of the Superintendents award and threatened him as well. ( 5 people heard her on the speaker phone)She demanded our VP do things that were against his integrity, she wrote letters she demanded he and others read that were basically untrue. She drove Sharon Jones who was an amazing woman and teacher out, and now Cathy HH because the Principal and VP feel they can handle her job and is no longer needed. Which I am sorry to say they cannot. These people devoted a number of years to this school and teachers and parents. They were depended on by many and respected. Everything we have found in the newspapers past and present as well as the people and a few teachers and parents from the Templeton area to be facts. We are watching it play out in front of us now. I am not making excuses but however stating facts. So, you as well need to look to both sides.
DeleteI ,too was under the impression this was your child. Now you state it was not your child and you carried on this way sorry to say does tell us you are on the inside which is fine, but be careful you will be called out. Have a great day.
What on earth leads you to the conclusion that I'm "on the inside". I am anything but. Because I defended a parent that was accused of the same, when they were attacked after their child had been?
ReplyDeleteI am going to copy and paste my above response, there are too many conversations happening, all under pseudonyms (for good reason) so I think things may be getting confused.
I DO NOT AGREE with what is happening, I too have been fighting. As I said I only recently found this blog, so my fight has been without this group of like minded people. Or maybe not like minded, if I'm going to be falsely accused of being "on the inside". NOWHERE did I deny the facts of the articles, I simply pointed out some things that were concerning.

Yes let us all look on both sides. It is after all about our children.
I contacted a few people concerning a bullying issue that happened around the first of the year and this according to sources was not addressed and the child was removed from the school. I am also looking into what maybe others and will get back to you . I am sorry I assumed ( should not of done that) because of how this has been written , I thought it was your child.
ReplyDeleteInteresting editorial in today's recorder
ReplyDeletehttp://www.recorder.com/Pioneer-supt-leaves-10790901
Just received a email from Jean bacon saying Mr. H quit. Here is a link to the article he was featured in on Saturday. http://www.recorder.com/Dads-discuss-the-rewards-of-fatherhood-10758725
ReplyDeleteThank you, for your support to the school! I would also like to thank this blog...I have been following it for a little over a year, and yes sometimes there may be a bit of conflation, but I am glad someone is setting the record straight. As a parent who no longer has children in the school sustem, I still care about pioneer. I am a taxpayer too. My children also follow this blog and share it with their friends to get the word out. I am thankful this blog.
I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE (especially recent graduates) TO ATTEND THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING TOMORROW NIGHT. PIONEER AT 7PM!
Even thougn my kids just graduated, I am still on the pioneer email list...are their any other parents of seniors who got this email? Kind of weird...but also grateful they are keeping me in the loop
DeleteDear Parents and Students,
ReplyDeleteIt is with great sadness that we accepted the resignation of Mr. Holesovsky, our Band Director, yesterday.
He has been a tremendous asset to Pioneer over his 12 years here, building the program into one of the finest, most award winning programs in Western Massachusetts and beyond. I have watched the marching and concert bands in rehearsal and performance many times this year with great pride in both our students and Mr. H for the way they represent all that is most excellent in achievement and character at Pioneer.
We all wish Mr. H well as he moves on to a larger high school with new and expanded opportunities for his professional growth and shares his wonderful leadership with a new generation of students.
I want you know that Pioneer is committed to our outstanding band program.
Mr. H and I spoke yesterday about all he is doing now and will do as we transition to new leadership for the band to support the continued success and vibrancy of our program and a smooth transition.
It will be difficult to fill Mr. H's large shoes and duplicate his superior leadership. I will be working with the Superintendent over the next couple days to define our next steps. The Band Director position is quite special at PVRS. The success of our Band program has been built in part by extensive fundraising, participation in a wide range of community-based events, and parent involvement.
I anticipate that we will be putting together a search committee of faculty, parents and students to assist with this process.
If you are interested in participating, please call Cheryl Baker in the PVRS main office at 413-498-2931 ext.503
or e-mail her at bakerc@pvrsdk12.org with the subject line:
BAND SEARCH by MONDAY, JUNE 26 at 3:00 PM.
So it begins and I am sure more to the story and I promie to find out .
